Windows Live Sync Beta

Windows Live Sync differs from Dropbox in that it allows direct computer to computer sync, without requiring the files be stored on their server. This is okay for me, since the home server is always on. After the rather lengthy install, you are prompted to enter a Windows Live ID to link your computers. No problem there, as I already had one. Next you choose the folders you want to sync, and this is where I hit the problem. I chose S:\Edward\Documents (the path on the server), hit next, and oh, that’s it. The problem is, the software tries to sync the exact same path on all computers. Obviously I don’t have an ‘S’ drive on my other computers, the folder I wanted to sync that one with is C:\Users\Edward\Documents on all computers but the server. Surely that would be allowed, I thought, but following much fiddling and research on the internet it turns out that’s not possible in the beta. I wasn’t about to try to older version that’s about to be replaced, plus it has its own limitations, so I uninstalled and decided to try Dropbox.

Dropbox

Now at first look Dropbox seems less than ideal for my requirements: All files have to be stored on their servers (using Amazon S3), which means there are limits to the amount of storage available. The absolute maximum available is 100GB for $20/month, which seems absolutely outrageous in the days of 1TB drives for £60. However, I was so fed up of Live Sync I decided to try the free 2GB version. The next pitfall is that you have to store files in the ‘Dropbox’ folder for them to be synced, or alternately use alias hacks to sync other folders. This meant I’d no longer be able to sync the desktop or indeed any folders other than Documents. The service is otherwise very good though, with fast and smart uploads that don’t upload the whole file again if you only changed the name. I needed a sync service so I decided to buy the 50GB service and pare down the synchronised files to only those that I needed. I rather foolishly fell for the yearly subscription discount, so I’m tied to it for a whole year now. The benefit of cloud storage is that I get an off site backup, a nice web interface, plus the service offers access to previous versions of files should I make an unwanted modification.

To uninstall Windows Live, what you need to do is closing all its services, deleting each item of the main program one by one and all its registry information.

First to shut it down and uninstall the main program. Many software developed by Microsoft itself can easily finds their way to firmly combine with your system, some of them are constantly running every time when you start your computer. This feature is really a hazard for you to totally uninstall Windows Live. If you ticked all the sub-items in installation, then the following items should be found and you need to terminate them all, apart from the annoying Messenger that popps-up every time:

live messenger

live call

live essentia

live sign-in assistant

live update tool

live sync

live photo gallery

live mail

You should be able to find them in Control Panel, but first remember to have them completely disabled, although not all of them are activated all the time. And if you are like me, who does not even know where to find them, let alone shutting them down, but really wants to uninstall Windows Live, you may as well try system Safe Mode, in where None of its program will run unless manually operated.

When all the services are down, you may now commence the removal. However, deleting those items from Add/Remove programs does not necessarily give you a completely uninstall every time, especially when the program is damaged or corrupted. In this case you must find three directories below:

C:\Program Files\Windows Live
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live
C:\Program Files\Windows Live SkyDrive

These are where all the remnant of the program are located and unless you erase them and the relative registry entries, you are not likely to successfully uninstall Windows Live. The problem is these entries are difficult to find and you will properly risk a danger of crashing your PC to use the Registry Editor. I did not want it so I seeked for help. A small application named Perfect Uninstall came as my final solution, With the features of Force and Special uninstall method, I was able to fully remove it by showing Perfect Uninstaller the three directories. The advantage is, no matter what file/directory you indicate to Perfect Uninstaller, it will scan your computer before deleting the file or directory, “excavating” all associated registry entries and making sure no leftovers escape. This is real helpful and effective when you don’t want to mess up with your registry.

The Windows Live Messenger previously known as Windows Messenger is already preinstalled with the usual range of Windows operating systems. However, there are many users who still prefer using the other instant messaging software instead of Windows Live Messenger software. Moreover, if one is not sure of using this in future or still have some qualms using it, he can always disable this messaging software rather than completely uninstalling it from the system, so that restoring the program at any given point of time in future becomes easy.

Though this instant messaging program runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista or any later version of Windows operating systems, the user still doesn’t have the option to install the program while installing these operating systems. It is only when one has a supported operating system; he can easily go ahead with disabling the Windows Live Messenger.
Simple Steps for Disabling the Windows Live Messenger:

1- The option to disable this instant messaging software is not available on the client software’s graphical user interface, so one has to proceed with clicking the “Start” menu option or by pressing the Windows button on the keyboard.

2- The next step is to click on “Run”, but for Windows Vista you need to type ‘Run’ on the Start Search box and then click “Run”.

3- When the run box appears, type ‘services.msc’ on the open textbox, after which you click ‘OK’. This will take you to open the “Services” window with a list of services.

4- In this list of running windows services, look for ‘Windows Live Messenger’ or ‘Windows Messenger’ and double click on it to disable the Messenger.

5- It will then prompt you to change the startup type in which case you need to click ‘Disabled’ from the drop down menu options.

6- Finally click “Stop” on the Service Status section to disable the Messenger completely and then click ‘OK’ after the service is stopped.

However, sometimes disabling this messaging client software means not going for the automatic start-up of your Windows Live Messenger along with your operating system. You can also disable this automatic start-up of your Windows Messenger with this procedure:

1- Simply sign-in to your Windows Messenger using your username and password.

2- Go to ‘Tools’ and click on ‘Options’, and in options window click on “sign-in”.

3- Then go to “automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows” after signed-in, and check the check mark and un-check the box if it has the mark.

4- Go to “allow automatic sign-in when connected to the internet” option and un-check the box.

5- Finally click ‘Ok’ to exit.

As a child you may have wrote through neighbourhoods of stately mansions as a child and admired all the beautiful windows on some of the houses. From the large transom windows with a view into the living room to see gorgeous furniture and perhaps a fireplace and family gathered captured the imagination and the eyes. As an adult and homeowner, you may now realize that these types of windows along with many other kinds are excellent additions to a new construction or remodel of an existing home but that failure to properly insulate your windows can be a costly mistake.

Particularly for areas where many months of the year that weather conditions include cold temperatures, high winds, heavy rains and snow, having fashionable windows that look good is simply not enough. Choosing a method that offers pleasing visual elements in concert with insulated features is the way to go. One way to achieve the latter object is by double glazing windows. Double glazing to lower heating costs during the winter can also be an opportunity for a tax credit at filing time during the year that work is completed.

For older homes where window replacement is necessary, double glazing insulates windows and cuts back problems such as draft and temperature drop around window ledges, sills and other edges. It is not only an affordable options that will prolong the life of original windows and their surroundings, but it can be directly linked to lowering heating bills costs during the winter as well as keeping your home cooler during the summer months by helping to keep cool air inside.

The process of double glazing windows is not a new one. It was actually created nearly 80 years ago. The technique, of course, has improved over the years. The latest styles in double glazing windows are still based upon the basic formation of two panes. There may be where the similarities end and the options to have well insulated window that offer double protection begins. Many great styles include those with adjustable blinds between the panes. These are common in hospitals where there is a need to provide shading options but to protect the blinds at the same time.

Some double glazing windows are available with threaded steel made into the glass. These windows are common at institutions where it is imperative that if the glass is broken, a form of protective barrier will still be in place. A part of where double glazing gets its name from is the process step that adds a drying agent to ensure that no moisture gets between the two panes. Varieties of glass and plexiglass are available and can be built to precise specifications.

Whether the need is for commercial or residential insulated windows that offer extra protection that is cosmetically appealing and durable, the choices in double glazing windows let customers create the perfect window arrangement for both home and business window needs. With double glazing windows, an airtight connection is created between the panes of glass and this extra protection can last for many years to come.

Choosing Bow windows create a finished glass unit that provides extra protection. Many upvc windows deals are available when you shop online allowing you to add the finishing touches to your home.
